If you're starting to write songs, chord progressions are one of the easiest ways to get started. Here are some commonly used progressions:

C – G – Am – F

G – D – Em – C

Am – F – C – G

D – A – Bm – G

Em – C – G – D

These progressions appear in many songs because they create strong movement and resolution.

Tips for using chord progressions:

Change rhythm patterns

Experiment with tempo

Try different strumming styles

Add variations to the last chord

What chord progressions do you use most in your songwriting?

I use Am–F–C–G quite a lot. It’s simple but very versatile.
