How do you go about learning songs when they are hard to hear?

Post by Newbie »

When trying to learn a guitar part in a song where it is quite busy and hard to isolate the guitar part itself, what is the best solution people use for learning it?

Is it the case that I should just default to leaning from tabs or YouTube or is there something else I could be trying to help me learn it by ear?

Sometimes it is just easier to default to youtube or ultimate guitar or similar rather than get yourself frustrated by it. Though learning by ear is the best way as you will be enhancing your ear training as well as many other musical skills at the same time. However, this can take time and time isn't always something we are blessed with!

I just go to Youtube. Sometimes seeing someone else play a cover of the piece helps. Also it helps if you can visually see what they are doing!
