Struggling to put fingers on chord simultaneously - any drills?

Post by Amybob83 »

Hello everyone. I’m a beginner. Just learned c chord a few weeks ago. But I can’t put my fingers on the three strings at the same time. Super frustrating. Is there a specific drill that I can do to learn simultaneity? Thanks for any tips or advice!

Just lots of practice. Also, if you get the root on time, it can buy you a sec to get everything else in place and it can still fit nicely.

Try different exercises like lifting your hand off the fretboard and placing it back down in position repeatedly to build muscle memory. Practice chord changes slowly and accurately to improve your finger coordination.

I find c is pretty natural. G was my first instant one, I always was slow on d. But everything is fluid. Learning a specific method is a fantastic base. But there are many ways to play.

Focus on the shape of the chord and how your fingers move. Practice transitioning between chords slowly and accurately to build muscle memory.

Going slowly is the best way to do it because accuracy is more important than speed when you are first starting out. Once you learn a second chord you can practice changing between them.

Just do exactly what you’re already doing now but more and for longer.

Try practicing the chord changes slowly and focus on landing all fingers at the same time. It will feel more natural with time and practice.
