I practice guitar every day but worry I may be reinforcing bad habits. How do you know you're improving without a teacher?

There is something you can listen to while practicing to catch mistakes! It's called a metronome. Also, recording yourself can help you identify errors.

Make sure to have a clear understanding of how to execute pieces correctly before practicing alone. Trust the process and keep working on improving.

Isn’t this just a normal pattern of learning? Make mistakes, get corrected, and repeat. Trust the process.

It's important to practice with a metronome and work on technique. Consider getting in a room with other musicians to improve your playing and feeling the music.

I've been practicing music alone for 15 years and still feel like I suck. Keep at it for the love of the game and enjoy the process.

You didn't waste the time, any time practicing is time well spent even if you "did it wrong." Keep playing with feeling and consider playing with other musicians to improve.

Speaking as a teacher, it is partly trusting the process, but also developing the skill to hear when you're not doing things correctly. Your teacher should provide an aural reference for what you're aiming for.
