Holding Pick Wrong?

Everyone i have asked have guided me to holding the pick this way but when i strum i hit my first finger off the string and it bruises me just under the nail! Is this normal and something you get used to or is this the wrong way?

If you're consistently hitting your finger, it might be worth trying out different picks to see if there's one that feels more comfortable for your playing style. Experiment with thickness and material to find the right fit.

I'm new to guitar playing as well and I've struggled with this too. Don't worry, it's all part of the learning process. Keep experimenting and you'll find what works best for you.

I've always held the pick with a tighter grip to avoid hitting my finger. It might take some practice to get used to, but eventually, you'll find a technique that works for you.

It sounds like you might be holding the pick too close to the tip. Try adjusting your grip so there's a bit more pick sticking out. It could help with your strumming technique.

I had the same issue when I first started playing. Make sure you're holding the pick at a slight angle and experiment with your grip until you find a comfortable position that works for you.

I used to have the same issue until I realized I was holding the pick too tightly. Loosening up my grip a bit and adjusting my strumming technique helped me avoid hitting my finger. Keep practicing and you'll get the hang of it!

I recommend watching some tutorials on proper pick holding technique. It's important to find a balance between comfort and functionality to avoid any injuries while playing.

I've been playing for years and I still occasionally hit my finger with the pick. It happens to the best of us, but with practice, you'll develop a more natural and effective grip.
