Any way to get around the pain?
So I started learning how to play guitar on a 6 string acoustic guitar about 3 days ago. I don’t feel forced to practice but I’ve grown so passionate of the guitar the last few days that I find myself unable to stop from practicing and playing. I’ve seen I need to wait for my fingertips to harden up but is there any way to continue practicing without utterly ruining my fingers? I’m having so much fun it’s quite heartbreaking when I have to pause after playing too long.

It’s definitely essential to have your guitar properly set up. If the action is too high, it can make playing more painful than necessary. Also, consider trying lighter gauge strings. I recommend starting with .010s or even .009s if you’re feeling a lot of discomfort. They’re easier on your fingers, though keep in mind you might lose a bit of tonal depth.

I totally get where you're coming from! That initial pain is just part of the journey to finding your tone. Embrace it! As your fingers toughen up, you’ll not only be able to play longer but also develop a unique feel. Focus on the music and let that passion guide you through the discomfort.

Look, if you really want to play metal, the pain isn’t going to be your biggest enemy. But yeah, lighter strings can help ease the struggle. Just remember, no pain, no gain! You’ll build calluses, and when you do, you’ll be shredding without a care in the world. It’s all part of the process, man.

Okay, so everyone keeps saying the pain is normal, but how long does it actually last? I really want to keep playing but I don't want to mess up my fingers or get discouraged. Should I just keep pushing through? Also, what’s this about lighter strings? Do they really make that much of a difference?
