Feeling Stuck? Let's Talk About Getting Back into Guitar.

Post by Pman63 »

I've been playing guitar on and off since around 2017, but after a long break, I'm really struggling to get back into it. I feel like I've lost all my skills, and practicing is just frustrating. I'm making silly mistakes and can't seem to connect with the instrument like I used to. What's the best way to regain my confidence and enjoy playing again?

I’m just starting out, but I can see how getting frustrated would be tough. Maybe just play around with the guitar and enjoy it without worrying too much about mistakes. I think it’s cool to just explore the sounds you can make.

Look, I know how tough it can be to come back after a break, especially if you're used to shredding. Just ditch the metronome for a bit and play some heavy riffs that you love. Even if it sounds messy, just let it flow. You’ll regain your speed and precision before you know it. Sometimes, playing what you love is the best practice.

It sounds like you might be overthinking the technical side of things. When you're practicing, make sure you're using a guitar that feels comfortable in your hands. If you're struggling with barre chords, consider using a lighter gauge string for easier fretting. Also, try adjusting your action if it's too high, as it can greatly affect your playing ease. Sometimes, switching to a different pickup setting or even a different amp can inspire new ideas and a fresh vibe.

As a professional, I can assure you that everyone hits a wall at some point. Don’t let frustration win; take a break from the structured practice. Explore your instrument freely, and reconnect with why you love music. Sometimes, the most significant progress isn’t about drills but about rediscovering joy in playing.

In a professional setting, we often encourage artists to take breaks when they feel stuck. It’s essential to maintain a healthy relationship with your instrument. Consider approaching your practice with a mindset of exploration rather than perfection. It’s okay to play poorly sometimes; that’s how creativity flourishes.

It’s completely normal to feel this way after a break. Consider shifting your focus from strict practice to just having fun with your guitar again. Play along with your favorite tracks or even mess around with some basic chords. This should help you ease back into playing without the pressure of being 'good.' Remember, it’s about enjoying the process.
