How can I step up my playing?

Post by Leeacoustic81 »

Hey everyone, I'm 14 and have been learning blues and rock for about a year and a half. I really want to dive deeper into pentatonic scales, expand my vocabulary, and figure out how to add more notes into my playing. Any tips?

Man, the essence of blues is all about the feel. It’s not just about hitting the right notes; you want to make those notes speak. Try to really listen to the emotion in the songs you love. When you're improvising, play what you feel rather than just sticking to the scale. The beauty of the pentatonic is how much you can express with so few notes. It’s all about the bends and vibrato that give life to your playing.

I’d recommend taking a structured approach. Understanding scales and their functions is important, but also make sure you're applying that knowledge practically. Learn songs that resonate with you and analyze them. What techniques are used? What makes the melodies appealing? This kind of analysis will help you develop your musical vocabulary.
