Digital Modelling vs Traditional Amps: Which Is Better for Live Gigs?

Post by JamesP »

Hey everyone, I've been playing around with some digital modelling gear recently, and I can't help but wonder how it stacks up against the classic tube amps when it comes to live performance. I get that digital tech has come a long way, but I’ve heard mixed opinions from mates. Some swear by their vintage amps for the warmth and feel, while others say a solid modelling setup is perfect for gigging, especially with all the effects you can pack in. I’m thinking of upgrading my rig – should I stick to a traditional amp for that classic sound, or take the plunge into the digital side? Any thoughts or experiences would be super helpful!

Hey James, I’ve been there, mate. There’s just something about the warmth and character of a vintage amp that you can’t quite replicate with digital gear. Sure, modelling can do loads and is super convenient for packing all those effects, but when I play live, I love the responsiveness of my old tube amp. It breathes with you, ya know? Just my two pence!
