Best Software for Recording Guitar at Home?

Post by Pman63 »

Hey folks, I'm looking to set up a home studio and I could use some advice. What’s your go-to software for recording guitar? I’ve heard of a few DAWs like Ableton Live and Logic, but I'm not sure what would work best for my needs. I'm mainly into rock and acoustic stuff, and I want something that’s user-friendly but can still give me a decent sound. Any recommendations or personal experiences with different software? Cheers!

Hey Pman63, I’ve been using Reaper for ages now. It’s super flexible and really affordable, especially for what you get. Plus, it has a great community and lots of tutorials online. You can easily set it up for rock or acoustic tracks.

I’d second Reaper, but if you fancy something a bit more straightforward, GarageBand is a solid option, especially if you're on a Mac. It's user-friendly and you can get some decent sounds without too much hassle.

Definitely worth considering GarageBand if you're new to this. Just keep in mind it’s a bit limited if you want to expand your setup later. But for laying down some quick tracks, it's perfect.

Reaper and GarageBand are both solid choices, but I'd also throw Logic Pro into the mix if you're looking for something a bit more advanced down the line. It’s fantastic for production and has loads of great plugins for rock and acoustic stuff.

Logic is brilliant for rock, I agree. The amp sims are pretty good, and the interface is intuitive. But if you’re not looking to spend a lot just yet, maybe try out Ableton Live Lite first. It’s free with many interfaces and good for getting your feet wet.
