Mixing Techniques: What Works for You?

Post by BluesGuy »

Hey everyone, I've been playing guitar for a few years now, mostly in a rock band, but lately I've been curious about incorporating some techniques from other genres into my playing. I've dabbled a bit in blues and jazz, and I love how expressive and fluid those styles can be. I’m wondering if any of you have specific techniques from different genres that you've picked up and found really enriched your sound or playing style. Maybe something unexpected that worked well for you? Any tips for blending styles without losing my own voice would be great too.

Mixing genres can really open up your playing. I used to play mostly folk but then started blending in some fingerstyle blues. It completely transformed my songwriting! If you're looking to integrate jazz, try incorporating some seventh chords into your progressions—adds a lovely tension and release!

Great point I’ve found using those seventh chords really adds character. Also, experimenting with different time signatures from jazz has helped me break out of my usual groove. Just remember to keep that feel in your playing—it's all about finding a balance between the new techniques and your own style!
