Tips for Quick Stage Setup at Gigs?

Post by JamesP »

Hey folks,

I’ve been playing in a few local bands and while the gigs have been fun, I always seem to stress out about setting up my gear on stage. It’s like a juggling act trying to get everything sorted in a limited time, especially when the soundcheck feels rushed.

What strategies do you guys use to make the stage setup smoother? I’m thinking about getting some pedalboards with built-in power supplies or maybe labelling my leads, but I’d love to hear any tips you have—especially for managing cables and keeping everything tidy. Any horror stories or lessons learned would also be great to hear!

Cheers!

Hey James, I totally get the stress of setting up quickly! I've started using a pedalboard with a built-in power supply, and it’s been a game changer. Plus, I use Velcro ties for my cables—it keeps everything neat and makes pack-up a breeze!

Great tips, Chris! I’ve been thinking about the Velcro ties too. They really help with cable management. I also keep a checklist of what I need to set up, so nothing gets forgotten in the rush. It’s a lifesaver for my sanity!

That’s so helpful, thanks! What’s a pedalboard? Is it just for fancy pedals or can it help with other stuff too? I’m just starting out, so I’m curious!

A pedalboard is basically a platform that holds your pedals and connects them with cables. It helps keep everything organised and makes it quicker to set up. You might also want to consider cable snakes if you're running multiple instruments—it keeps things tidy and makes switching easier.

Good point, Daniel! A cable snake can really simplify things. I used to have a nightmare with cables all over the place, but now it’s much more manageable. And Newbie, don’t worry, we’ve all been there—just take your time and you'll pick it up in no time!
