Setup Tips for Different Genres
Hey everyone, I've been trying to branch out with my playing and get a better sound for different genres. Right now, I mainly stick to rock, but I've started dabbling in blues and metal. I’m just not sure how to adjust my setup for these styles. For instance, should I lower the action for blues to get that smooth bending or raise it for metal to avoid fret buzz when shredding? And what about pickup selection? Any tips on effects or amp settings that suit each genre better? Would love to hear how you all approach this!

That sounds really interesting! I’m not sure about all the setups yet. Would lowering the action really help with bending notes for blues? I thought it might make it harder to play.

Lowering the action can definitely help with bending in blues, but just be careful not to go too low, or you'll get fret buzz, especially if your guitar isn't perfectly level. For metal, raising it a tad might help avoid that, but it's all about finding your comfort zone. A good compromise might be to set your action low for blues and adjust it slightly higher when you go heavier.

For rock, I usually stick with a medium action, but for blues, I go a bit lower for the smooth bends. As for pickups, I find that single coils work well for blues for that biting tone, while humbuckers are great for rock and metal. Maybe experiment with your amp settings too—boosting mids can really help shape your sound.
