Hey everyone, I'm trying to figure out how to balance sustain and attack in my playing. I find that when I focus too much on getting that long sustain, my notes sometimes lose that punchy attack I love, especially when I’m playing solos. On the flip side, if I put too much emphasis on attack, my notes can sound a bit choppy and lose their character.
I play mainly rock and a bit of blues, and I’ve been experimenting with different pick techniques and amp settings, but I still feel like I’m missing something. How do you approach this? Do you have any tips or specific techniques that help you find that sweet spot? Would love to hear your thoughts!

I totally get what you mean! Finding that balance can be tricky. Have you tried adjusting your attack with different picks? Sometimes a softer pick can help with sustain.

Yeah, I feel you on that! I usually play with my fingers to get more control over the attack. Also, experimenting with your amp settings, like the gain and treble, can really help shape your tone for both sustain and attack.

Great points, both of you! Another thing to consider is your playing technique. Have you tried using palm muting in certain parts of your solos? It can really enhance the attack without sacrificing too much sustain.
