is your strat noisy?

Post by polyal »

i was going to buy a humbucker for my strat...because of the induced noise esp
when using distortion / sustain etc ie pumping the volume (and induced noise)

but if you use the position on the pickup selector that selects 1+2 or 2+3 the noise
disappears because the pickups are out of phase thus cancelling the noise ( although not 100 % )
this is the basic principle of a dual coil humbucker

to maintain the integrity of the sound of the treble and bass pickups ( although not 100% )

adjust the bass and treble pickups( 1&3 )as near to the strings as pos ....and the centre pu
as far away as pos...you are reduced to 2 pu 's ( bass & treb ) but there's far less noise

in a live band situation this probably isn't an issue ... but when recording ..no noise is a must

That's a very good point, but then you affect the guitar tone, if they wanted a different neck setting etc.

Suhr also makes a back plate that cancels out that AC hum. Brazen Guitars are also unique on their Eternity series in that they have almost no noise. Lace pickups do a good job but they color the sound somewhat.
