My 5th Dont Work

Post by Indaloman »

Please help an old man from going crazy. A while ago I attempted to retune to DADF#AD. Stupidly I went up not down and broke the 5th B string. I replaced the string and now although tuned correctly (checked with two tuners) when I play 3rd fret on the B it is a tone out, I have to play the 5th fret E to get a D. I though I may have changed it with the wrong string, so replaced today and it is still the same. What wrong?

I think you must be out of tune - there is nothing you could have done to break your guitar that badly - You must still have it tuned to A rather than B!

I have spoken to my mate how is a bit of a guitar expert.

He wants to know if its a fixed bridge or tremolo?

I told him I believe the stag as a fender type trem.

He said you might need to replace the saddle or better still replace the trem as at times cheap trems can cause all host of problems.

He recommends a fender made in mexico.

However you must check the distance between the first of the six screw holes and the sixth. It should be 56 mm.

No it has a fixed bridge, I will check the 12th fret/Harmonic this morning to make sure it is still in tune. I have only just joined this site, what a great bunch of guys you all are

Spent the morning going back to basics. tuning the 12th fret to 12th harmonic on all the strings is spot on EXCEPT for the 5th B string which in order to get a C# at the 3rd fret has to be tuned to C# also. I know a Stagg is not the greatest guitar aroung but this is driving me crazy
