Chord progressions

Post by beemaster »

Does anyone have any chord progressions that they like to play? I like to try to figure out different progressions to help with my chord transitions but I'm no good at it. I thought that maybe somebody here could help out...

There are loads of progressions out there. Some stay in one key others go in and out of other keys.

The best thing to do it to start analysing other peoples progressions. A very popular progression is the I - IV - V progression. This features in many many poplular songs that you will know.

I - IV - V represents the first, the fourth and the fifth chord from any given key.

So to play a progression in C we take the chords of the key of C

C - Dm - Em - F - G - Am - Bdim - C

The I chord is C
The IV is F
The V chord is G

Play these chords and you will have just played hundreds of songs!

If anyone does not understand this then please let me know and I will go into it deeper

Here's a few typical ones:
||E|D|A|E||
||C|D|E|E||
||G|F|C|C||
||E|G|A|C||

Those ae sort of standard ones. Then there's the 12 barre blues:
||C7 F7 C7 C7| F7 F7 C7 C7| G7 F7 C7 G7||
and variations:
||C7 C7 C7 C7| F7 F7 C7 C7| G7 F7 C7 G7||
||C7 F7 C7 C7| F7 F7 C7 C7| Dm G7 C7 G7||
||C7 C7 C7 C7| F7 F7 C7 C7| G7 G7 C7 C7||
||C7 F7 C7 C7| F7 Fdim C7 A7| D7 F7 C7 G7||

There's few to look at.
