Beginner Guitar Tips Needed!

Post by Andysounds91 »

I recently got a Squier electric guitar from my brother, along with an amp. I'm facing a couple of challenges: my hands feel too small for some chords, and I struggle to get a good distorted sound for rock and metal. The amp isn't very fancy, so I'm not sure how to set it up.

Hey mate, don’t sweat it too much! We all had those awkward beginner moments. Just keep playing, and trust me, your fingers will learn to stretch and adapt. Plus, with some time, you'll get the hang of those amp settings, too.

I started with small hands too, and I can tell you it gets easier. Just keep practicing those chords, and they’ll start to feel more manageable. Plus, once you get that distortion sorted, you’ll feel like a rock star!

Sounds like you're on the right track! Everyone starts somewhere, and your fingers will definitely get more flexible with practice. Just keep at it; you'll surprise yourself with how much progress you make!

The good news is that hand size is often not the limiting factor in playing. Focus on your technique and finger positioning. If you're struggling with thicker necks, you could explore guitars with slimmer neck profiles. As for distortion, your amp likely doesn't have built-in effects, so investing in a distortion pedal would be a great next step. Just connect the pedal to your amp, and you'll notice a big difference in sound.

It's worth noting that while gear plays a role, your technique and practice are paramount. Make sure you're fretting properly and not letting the guitar rest in your palm; that can limit your reach and flexibility.

It’s all about finding your groove. Don’t stress too much about hand size; it’ll adapt over time. Remember, tone is in the fingers as much as the gear. Keep playing, and you’ll develop your own sound that feels right to you.
