Finding the Right Nut Size for Fat Fingers

Post by JamesP »

Hey everyone, I've been struggling with playing because my fingers are a bit on the larger side. I started with a Telecaster, but it just didn't feel right. After doing some digging, I found out that the nut size is a big factor. Fender guitars typically have a 42mm nut, which didn't work for me. I discovered that Epiphone guitars, especially the Les Paul Standard and Custom, come with a 43mm nut and they feel so much better to play. Plus, they’re reasonably priced. Hope this helps someone out there!

The difference in nut width can actually affect playability quite a bit, especially for players with larger hands. A 43mm nut gives you a bit more space between the strings, which can help with finger placement and comfort. If you're experimenting, you might also want to check out string spacing and neck profile, as those can impact your overall feel as well.
