Band prospect rejected me because I don’t have a strong grasp of reading lead sheets.

If reading lead sheets is important for the bands you want to join, then it might be worth investing some time in improving that skill. Keep pushing yourself to get better and you'll find the right band for you.

Finger pain

Don't forget to stretch your fingers before and after playing to prevent cramping and stiffness.

Struggling with chord changes - where to focus?

Experiment with different practice techniques to see what works best for you. Whether it's closing your eyes, using a mirror, or focusing on specific chord progressions, find what helps you build that muscle memory.

Improving as an Intermediate Guitarist

Working on arpeggios is a fantastic way to improve your rhythm, theory, and technique all at once. Keep at it and you'll see progress!

Help analysing this chord progression

I would love to help but I am useless with music theory. I would be really interested in the answer though.

Where is the chord progression from?

Theory "mental" exercises

A question - is "theory mental exercises" away from the instrument (like interval naming, chord spelling, scale spelling) a part of your learning routines? For years i've neglected this but noticed more and more teachers recommend it.

Tips for improvising an existing solo

Like a lot of bands do this live on solo stuff where they solo and improvise on the solo but still keep the fundamentals. how does one do that?

Mastering a certain scale

If you were to quiz me on how much I know about a scale or my mastery of it, what would you ask me or look for. There has to be more to a scale than just the shape and knowing the order of the degrees. I’m trying to gauge how to effectively learn a scale.

What should I be learning to be able to write decent melodic songs

I know this is a broad question but I struggle to make anything but a 4 chord sequence with a simple melody. I will say I am quite new to composing and I am mainly a self taught guitarist (though can play a little piano). When I listen to other music the melody never seems to be this contrained and ...

Learning Guitar Theory Without a Guitar

hi guys

I work in a job where I have a lot of time where I listen to podcasts, music, etc. I then realised why don't I use this time to learn and consolidate guitar theory. obviously learning is more easy or useful when one can put those learnings into practice with a guitar in hand.

I won't have ...

How to start learning music theory

I am really interested in learning about music theory as I think it would help me with composing and breaking away from boring chord progressions.

However, it seems like such a minefield and I have no idea where to even begin to get started.

Can anyone offer any advice on where I should or could ...

Last night I did my first open mic, the guitar mic didn't work but I did my best with what I had. I completely butchered the third verse and had to repeat the second but I did end up enjoying it

Exploring the Songwriting Secrets of The Beatles

I swear every one of their songs has like 2 or 3 little moments where they do something unique but the rest is super straightforward. Whether it’s a moment of harmonic/tonal ambiguity, borrowing from the parallel minor, a secondary dominant, weird phrasing on a melody, a key change, whatever. The ...

I'm on the hunt for chords that have a dark and moody feel to them, but I don't have a wide selection to choose from. Any tips on finding similar chords or harmonies?

Are smaller playlists actually better for building a real audience?

I’ve been submitting my tracks to playlists and noticed something interesting. A few smaller independent playlists brought fewer streams than the big ones, but I got more saves and even some followers from them.

It made me think that maybe smaller, niche playlists have more engaged listeners, while ...

Soloing: Sticking to the Root Key or Changing Keys with Every Chord?

I've been playing music for a while so I understand somethings about theory but there's a lot I don't know. When I first learned about scales, I would play the scale of the root chord and use that for my solo. So if the song is a blues in E, I stay in E for all the changes.

I've heard of people ...
