I'm not really into rock concerts but the BEST concert I've been to was Mariah Carey's when she went here in the Philippines. I got one of the front seat tickets so I was really excited about the show. Best thing is it was my birthday, too.  default/tongue

I am fan of Mariah as well. You would be enjoying a lot on front seats. It is my wish to see her live and in front seats.

I am not wondering to know that a lot of people don't like them but they rocked the world once by their performance after so many years.

I am fan of MTV and I think this is the best music channel around. There is a lot of entertainment all the time.

Me and My guitar, Me and My guys, Me and My girlfriend, My and my books....well sometimes Me and myself.

I wish to do all which you are already doing but I can't manage a lot of free time. I always surf the net for improvement. Internet is a great companion.

It is a nice piece of information. Great post, but we would appreciate if you post some video regarding how to use the effect pedals and how to operate them. It would be easier for us to understand via video.

I am also looking for some videos and shall try my best to post if I shall get ever.

Even 5 watts is very loud.

5 watts goes not equal half that of a 10watt amp.

It would really need to be under 1 watt to be the best.

I have not heard of any such thing.

Did you find some solution for that? I am keen to know about it.

That is pretty good in a pretty good price. I am wondered to see its price. I think this is in one of the best buy.

I play Fender acoustic. Its kind like it coz of melodious sound f it. Though i also love old is gold stratocaster.

Being fond of electric guitars, I am trying Acoustics as well. I hope to learn something good about it.

I think best place to buy online is eBay, not only for guitars but also for each and everything. I have always found their prices less than the market prices.

I know that eBay is a good place to purchase such stuff but I have already asked to exclude that from the list.

For me sometime I use 9'sand sometimes 10's as I have 2 guitar now ( default/smile) which I use according to the type of song that we practice. But Generally I stick with 9's which is normal for me.

Although 10's are heavier but they are fun to use. Less than 8's are very loose so I prefer 9's and 10's.

I think that learning on you're own is good, but finding other guitarists to play with is also important, not necassarily lessons, but even someone to learn along side of.

Well, I am not denying that but someone can learn very well(Advanced techniques and other stuff) if he started to learn on his own.

I didn't have the benefit of learning from anyone else. i had to do it on my own and looking for resources on the internet.

Yes it is true but if it is a pleasure to learn anything on our own. Even I have observed that such learning is more effective and such guitarists are better guitarists.

I think we should have amps with 5 watts or so or which can communicate at volume 1-4 with guitar. You should try some 5 watt amp, I hope it will work.

I now use a Marshall valvestate amp at home. This goes very loud but is also good at lower volumes.

I am not sure how Marshall Valvestate amps run but I like their features because everyone wishes to has such amp. Good quality at low volumes.

I have a good ol' stratocaster... It's not the highest of quality (its an Austin) but its done me well over the years, and it is pretty easy to play. I'd recommend it for beginners!

I think everyone likes guitar of his own style. anyhow there i some thing common and i.e ease of playing. It is good to have such feelings because If we would start something very complex in start, it will be impossible to do anything good with it.

Nero is the best for me as it is a good software for me its easy to use and user friendly.

Its 7th version is little complicated so I am still doing everythign with older. Which version you are using?

A few sequences and pedal effects which I have got from somewhere are listed below. I thought these might be very beneficial for all of you.

A good starting order, from guitar to amplifier, is:

Filter effects

   1. Phaser
   2. Wah pedal

These effects sweep a peak (wah) or notches (phaser) in the frequency response. By placing these before distortion effects, they vary the distortion intensity of the affected frequencies at the same time.

The original Vox and Cry-Baby wah pedals did not use a true bypass when off, and can load your guitar signal. If this is a problem for you, you might want to have the switch replaced with a true bypass.

Another way around the problem is to use a "buffer preamp" before the wah, which can be any effect with electronic switching, turned off. If you use a phaser as well, plug that in first, and it will happily drive the wah pedal.

Compressor
Even though many players suggest compression should be first, there is benefit in placing it after filter effects. Filter effects can reduce volume at some settings (eg heel down on the wah pedal, notches in the middle frequencies from a phaser, etc), so placing a compressor after these effects can even out volume changes.

Overdrive/Distortion

   1. Stomp-box effects
   2. or your pre-amplifier drive channels

Placing overdrive after the filters gives them a more natural sound, like placing your wah pedal before a heavily overdriven amplifier. Using the filter effects after overdrive gives them a much stronger, more synth-like sound.

You would not normally need to use heavy compression and heavy overdrive together.

There can be merit in using light EQ before the overdrives (used only when the overdrive is on); this gives you the ability to change the character of overdrive. For example, boosting the highs before overdrive, but cutting highs after overdrive (with the overdrive's tone control), will balance the highs overall, but cause them to be more heavily overdriven than the lower strings.

The overdrive could be the preamplifier in you amp. You can use this if your amplifier has an effects send and return, to allow you to use the remaining effects below. You may need to check the levels sent and expected by the send/return loop; often they are designed for line level only (eg rack equipment) and not the lower level stomp boxes.

Some send/return loops allow you to blend the return in an equal mix with the unaffected signal. This is great for not affecting your original signal, which can become quite unnatural if taken from the amp, processed by one or more analog-to-digital-to-analog conversions, then re-input. This increases the complexity though, when you want to remix chorus, flange, delay and reverb, all without any original component. Also, you may want some of these effects to be fed with inputs of a mix of original and other effects. These capabilities are often not provided in rack products.

Equalisers

   1. Graphic
   2. Parametric
   3. Speaker Simulators

These effects can be used on their own, to tailor solo or rhythm sounds, or with overdrives to give more control than you usually have with the overdrive tone control. For example, you could use heavy distortion, and use equalisation here to cut middle for a heavy sound, or tailor the highs for a creamy, yet "bitey" Santana sound, etc.

Before using a volume pedal to control my on-stage volume, I used a graphic equaliser stompbox to set a nice rhythm tone, with reduced level. I set my amp for the lead sound I wanted, and (although it sounds strange) turn the equaliser OFF to play a solo.

Speaker simulators are mostly preset, and highly tailored equalisers to emulate speaker box resonances, and microphone techniques. Some include other subtle effects, such as short delays, as well. Placement is not as crucial as you might think. For example, most recorded sounds use a microphone in front of a speaker box, then studio effects, such as equalisation, chorus, delay, etc applied afterwards.

On the other hand, when you play live, and are using a variety of effects through a stage power amp and speaker box, you might want to use the simulator here only for the purpose of feeding the mixing desk (who apply their own delay and reverb for the front mix). You could bypass the simulator on stage, and apply just enough delay/reverb to give a natural on-stage sound.

Pitch Effects

   1. Harmoniser
   2. Vibrato
   3. Pitch benders

Harmonisers in particular should be placed after overdrive. In the opposite order, sending several notes to the overdrive input causes strong inter-modulation distortion where additional, usually low, notes are added. These extra notes may have no relationship to the harmony you intend.

Modulation effects

   1. Flanger
   2. Chorus

These are effectively combined filter, delay and pitch effects. Because each of these effects is subtle (unless you set high resonance), many players prefer them after distortion, and prior to echo effects.

Level controllers

   1. Noise gate
   2. Limiter
   3. Volume pedal
   4. Tremolo
   5. Panning

Placing level effects before echo effects allows a natural echo sound. For example if you play a loud chord, but fade it out quickly with a volume pedal, you still want to hear the echo on what you played. The other way round, with echo first then a volume pedal, you would hear a loud chord with echo briefly, with both the main souund and the echo quickly cut out to silence. This sounds about as natural as turning the power off on your amp!

Echo Effects

   1. Delay
   2. Reverb

These effects are usually placed last to allow you to emulate the effect of using an amplifier in a "lively" room.

Wow that is some amp although my issues are the other way - I want to get a tube amp to sounds good at low volumes!

Wouldn't like to have to pay to replace all those valves too often!

I also wish for that but I just wanted to let you people know about loudest amp. Tube amp which sounds good at low volume is just like a sweet dream.

There might be many situation when someone can start at certain age but teenagers are being attracted more(IMO) so I also being caught in this age. I know many people who have God given abilities and opportunities and they have started it very early ages. Atmosphere also effects a lot. If someone would has an active guitarist in family, definitely he will be in the business at early ages.

What was the best concert you've ever been to and why? Although it is very tough and difficult to say anything but I can forget "1993 Metallica".

It is almost a dream and everyone has his own favorite star. We have fastest and best guitarist here then why not favorite? Who is your favorite guitarist which has amazed you most? I am not going to disclose it yet, I shall like to hear something from you first default/tongue

I am wondering how much a newbie should practice and which is the right time to practice. Along with that what you would recommend for newbies to practice? What have you done?

I am curious to know that which is the best application, song book, lesson, and video? Everyone has different choices and I have my own.
Emedia - "Guitar Method"  is the best application for me to start with.
"Troy Stetina - Speed and Thrash Metal Guitar Method" (Troy is a real good lesson teacher) and "Metallica - Black Album" is the best song book.
What you have on your list?

I have used Nero extensively for ripping all MP3's and I think it is the best software to do so. I have used Windows media player but Nero is on the top. What is your favorite application to Ripping MP3's?
