bought my strat in 1993 and a vintage ( for the floyd rose ) in 2003...thats me done till i need a replacement through damage or whatever...but i have a mate who buys a guitar every other month for the sake of it ..it must be a fetish for certain types of people...i would probably buy more often  if i had the dosh but all my spare spondulicks goes on studio gear ( mixers/computers/software etc )..blimey thats my fetish

i think £350 a year is a lot more than the average song writer in the UK gets( £350 more ) so as long as its a side line and hobby thats not to bad...but if its fulltime i'd recommend jacking and getting a job in that rice field in asia

i use a zoom 9150 ... it has preamp simulation/eq.enhancer/chorus.phaser etc /echo/reverb...all programmable and if you're running a sequencer you can get the computer to change your patches as you play your song via midi (no footpedals)...this is all in one box and theres no noise..but its more of a studio thing .i should imagine the me-70 or similar multi effects units would do the job just as good..it might be a good idea to get something that has a built in tuner also..so thats another pedal less..theres plenty of stuff around ..check ebay you could get something really cheap

if the papratsis came round here i'd say...look mate go and take a picture of my gran trying to cross the
M6 .... If anything happens i'll go 50/50 with you... but blame the accident on your telephotoscopic lens poking the driver in the face and blinding him in both eyes

if everybody on the planet could write a brilliant song...what would happen
to music ?and how would it affect you...would it all become pointless??

theres mastering and mastering..for me its very basic ..ie normalising getting the right loudness
eq'ing etc ...if the mix is good to start with the main points to watch for is overall loudness..if you're
putting a few tracks on a cd they need to be all the same volume when played back so the rms ( loudness )
should be similar for all tracks ( if they're the same genre )..there are countless tricks mastering engineers can perform to improve
a finished track and theres loads of software now thats making it possible for joe bloggs to start mastering
and delving into this once enigmatic subject...me personally im learning all the time..but i do know enough to
master sensibly  ....see youtube videos....if you're interested theres a wealth of stuff on youtube about the
subject and like i said before..its not rocket science

try this...get one of your tracks into cubase and get the volume reading 0db on the o/p meters... insert a plugin compressor or limiter start compressing the track ( experiment ) make sure after each adjustment the
meter is still reading 0db ( max )...listen to the volume go up ( loudness )...you have now started to master a
track

ps like the vids presentation..nice

t-racks mastering suit is a great investment for any serious recordist. its affordable and with it you can master and learn about mastering .. put your own cd,s together in a ' professional manner ' for a few £$
and finish up with results that you're happy with not an impartial 3rd party
does anybody remember all the commotion caused by the mastering of one of metallicas albums
it had the sh!t squashed out of it and 99% of the punters demanded there money back because of the distortion ( obscene compression and limiting to get it as loud as possible )
a good mastering engineer is a tradesman but he started somewhere
so if your're gonna be doing a load of recording learn mastering as well as laying tracks..its not rocket
science...and there are loads of tools/software to enable you to accomplish this....but remember  you cant polish a turd..not even a mastering suite with shed loads of gear
