in the mean time if its got midi use it to to get your head round midi....you only need ( at this point ) midi out

in a nut shell ..yes
LE will be limiting only to the point of ' extras ' so if you get stuck in and learn LE it will be a real good stepping stone when you do upgrade to the full versions ( you'll know when that time arrives )..so carry on with LE ... cubase is a brilliant tool
for any musician
get yourself a cheap midi keyboard ( loads on the market )so you can use midi to input your drums basses and vsti

i use SX3 ... people upgrade for the sake of it
and get extra features which are about as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike

start with SX3 cub4 or cub5 and stick with it dont try to be cool and upgrade everytime another version comes out..but if you must always go for the full version because if  you go for the studio versions or less
they will definately have features missing that you got use to in earlier versions

if you use the ' full version' then 'i wonder what i am missing out on' does not become an issue

ive always used cubase since it started (pro24 on the atari)its as good as any other top end sequencer
..ive tried them all inc pro tools..they've all got their pros and cons .. so if you're using cubase stick with it

higher versions will always have more features, thats pretty obvious..or is it ..because sometimes earlier features are discarded ,so something you really got used to disappears .this is one of the reasons i am ( more than )happy to stick with SX3..theres nothing it cant do for me ( except write me a number 1)
and a few other things i dare'nt print

i suppose it depends on what you want to use cubase for..i use SX3 in the studio basically in a layering
process ...ie record a drum track..then a bass track..then an acc guit ..then a......and so on and so on..i think most people work this way as its the only way for a one man set up..but the results can be really satisfying and very professional
most popular music is recorded like this anyway
as far as which version to use ......sx3 v cub5....sx3 hasn't got pitch correction, but i use melodyne... sx3 hasn't got halion.
but i use 'directwave'(sampleplayers)and so on (you've just done something similar by getting 'beat calculator' )cubase 5 has got more bells and whistles if you want them but the real core of any version is a multitracking
recording device
so in any one project  do you want 256 stereo tracks? do you want 128 vsti do you want to run 200 plug ins etc etc
do you want to pitch shift a track while apply time stretch and pitch correction all at the same time, while it cooks dinner and wipes your ars* then cubase 6 will probably do that
i dont do any of this thats why i can survive in a sensible manner using SX3

so what do you want out of your multitracker (cubase-any version)
you neen to see what the different versions are offering to see whats best for you
go to the websites for this info

.......as important is the interfacing, a flexible mixer is minimum

tried the beat calculator to a song of 106 and got an average of 106.1..so this should do very
nicely

that should do the job it looks similar to the sx3 version

i use sx3 and have no intentions of upgrading as there is nothing i cant do in SX3 .. esp with all the
3rd party plugs and vsti

i really recommend you go top end with your sequencer tho ...if your using cubase then cubase 5 (but not the studio version)

its horses for courses and a drummer definitely doesn't fit in a home studio ( literally )..
but for live work who'd do without them..get stuck in with your EZdrummer..they are real sounds
easy to lay down giving you more time to get on with the writing/playing etc. I bet 99% of all commercial
productions use loops drum machines and whatever else is on offer
if you want to use a drummer though let him loose with you ez drummer and see what sort of
rythms he can come up with, you can use them then in your songs

this is a minefield... but try a thicker plec( > 1mm ) and strike the string with the plec parallel to the string(longitude)

most people who struggle writing songs are non singers...are you a singer

i ran a small commercial studio in the 70's and the biggest pain in the ars* was always the drummer .. why
not use drum loops and drum machines all the big boys have been doing it since drum machines and loops
were first invented over 25 years ago.. if you want to lose your phobia use a real drummer for a session
......you'll get f*** all done and finish up setting fire to his drum kit
you can still manipulate loops etc in cubase and other good sequencers to put your own personal touch to your projects

get the song going in your head while you're playing your git and tapping your feet ( open project-->beat calcutor first )then still in a trance to that particular groove start tapping the space bar per beat .. this will give you the tempo your tapping..then go to the transport bar and change tempo from track to fixed and imput the tempo ...get the metronome going and start creating a drum track at your ( at the moment) tempo

always round up or down to the nearest whole beat
ie say 92 not 91.32 what the beat calculator might compute

what happened to the song writing thread ?

lets hope they're already imported because if you have to buy direct  from china  you'll probably
have arthritus in your fingers before you get your strings ( bad experiences ..ebay )

if you turned a left handed guitar round and played it right handed ( is that what you mean ? )
then the bass strings would be at the bottom

please post on the mod...just one thing make sure the diameter of the ball of any particular string is smaller than the end of the screw where it sits else its a t**t to get out...you can use a small washer to stop the ball
sinking in if necessary...best of luck with the mod..its well worth it

Ok what's your opinions please. Buying a guitar this week, here's the thing. I learned bass in high school right handed. My mates been kinda showing me how to play on a right handed acoustic recently. But now I'm thinking, I can get a left-handed acoustic for the same price as a right. But will i be able to just switch things backwards and unlearn everything? Like will I need to get the sheet music backwards? cause I'm getting confused. I strum better with my left... I think :? Please anyone who has an opinion reply as I want to get started learning this week. Thanks, ash x

could you please join the ' left handed 'thread in the guitar forum

its the the 6 screws that pass under the pitch adjusters and push the block clamping the de-balled string.
you can replace them with the ' drilled type ' i took mine out and drilled them on a lathe ( the length of the screw ) but i think
replacements would be a better option..it depends on your DIYing lilt

the string is then threaded through (like a strat) instead of being clamped...Much better and no mucking about with the string ball end...and it never comes out

you also need to pack the space left by the block so the string passes through unobstructed.this will be apparent when you load your first string

the later floyds have done away with the blocks...have a look how they are strung
you can modify to the later fitting...much quicker to change strings..no mucking about.. i made my own .so its no big deal...

for starters i dont think not being able to write songs is a disability ..being able to write ( good ) songs is a talent
and unfortunately most guitarists ( musicians ) dont have this talent.Nearly all musicians learn their instruments because they
want to be a musician ..not a songwriter
so i would say to anyone that wants to get creative is co-write with a songwriter that isnt particularly a good musician
this way you can contribute buy introducing good chord progressions, riffs, arrangements and melody adjustments etc..but
most of all you've got someone to bounce ideas off and get feedback.I bet loads of brilliant songs have been discarded
becuase the lone writer just cant make up his mind and thinks f*** it
I know this works because i have been doing it for the last 25 years ( i am a frustrated song writer in 'lone mode ')
