Good well I am very pleased you feel this way. I would hate to think that people might not bother coming back because of lack of content! So if it ever gets to that point then just let me know before you disappear and I will do all I can!

Yes when you have young children you don't have so much time to do anything so I admire how efficient you are Mikey!

Good to see you around though. I trust all is well and you are enjoying fatherhood?

Yes I know what you mean  - i think the problem lies with us being such a small community so we all get involved with every post.

If we had more people then there would be more theory chat for the theory lovers and more other guitar chat for the others. Generally with forums, people check the category or categories that they like and disregard the others but as I said, here we are a much tighter community (which is nice!)

I used to play the Piano when I was young. I enjoyed it and wanted to learn something a bit more cool.

I remember getting my first acoustic guitar for Christmas, must have been when I was about 9. For some reason I thought I would be able to just play it as any guitarists I had seen on the telly made it look so easy.

When I realised I couldn't just play it, it stayed dormant for a year until I was able to take lessons at school!

I love the look of the Les Paul. I love what it stands for as a rock guitar.  I know the SG could be considered the same but I am not a fan of the shape at all.

All the guitars I have ever owned have been based around the strat shape in one way or another! Which is a bit strange

Now that is annoying!

Do you  know how the digitech compares?

I'm really happy with the how quickly I can create my loops on the PC now, though it is hardly portable if you need it be - though I don't so suits me well!

Wish I knew something about theory, but I don't.

You got everything here going for ya! And you are quite open to as what we can post

Thanks john - no problem about the theory. Theory is a tiny tiny part of guitar playing and the guitar in general. There is plenty of other things to talk about - how is your composing/recording coming along?

Before Christmas the forum was coming along nicely. Since the new year the conversation is fading fast!

I'm racking my brains for ideas for topics but my creative juices just aren't flowing  default/lol

So if anyone can help start any new topics to get the momentum going again I would appreciate it!

Thanks a lot!

There is a lot of functions with it - most I have never used. Start off with the basics - loading a tune, playing it, slowing it down, muting specific parts marking a certain phrase.

What I have mentioned above can be picked up really easily and I don't think I have ever used more of the functions that this in the 5+ years I have used guitar pro!

Yes the drums/clicks are pretty poor but this wasn't really what I got this pedal to do. I must say I haven't overdubbed anything - just did a flat loop then used that to jam over.

I know what you mean about the constraints. Rightly or wrongly I ended up putting this pedal at the end of the effects loop which meant that I could record whichever sound I wanted then play a completely different sound over the top. Putting it in the front of the amp would certainly be restrictive.

I guess it depends what you want out if it. It worked well for me to just try soloing over ideas or creating a quick jam track but I guess that is where the potential stops.

I'll be honest, I do own it and I'm less than happy with it.  Ive owned mine for about 3 years now.   Its in my office among other things that I dont use or care for anymore.

I must say that since I have Cubase ready to record at the press of a button I have not used this pedal as Cubase does it all plus more and easier to use.

Having said that, before I had anything set up to record without at least some hassle, this pedal provided the ability to easily lay down a jam track to play to.

Some of the videos on youtube of how people have used it are pretty impressive as well.

What aspect of it did you not like/get along with?

I have a feeling that superior drummer may not be worth the investment.

I use Ez for very quickly creating drum beats. It really is so simple which I love then you can go back and add fills or manually edit drums after.

I know that you can split each drum beat into it's own track, convert them to audio, add compression or play with EQ etc so there is loads to do with this before you need to look further.

I would imagine that superior drummer is for those looking to spend a lot of time on their drums to get them sounding as real as possible for professional tracks. To my ear, what you can get with EZ does this already for my needs!

If you do decide to get it I would be very interested to hear your reviews on how it compares.

Instructor - Ez drummer is the best thing I found. I have an alesis SR-16 which I tried to use but never got on with it. I used beta monkey loops which are great sounding but restrictive. Then I found Ezdrummer and i really like how easy it is to use and how simple it is to get a decent drum beat going - all full editable at a later date.

Like Don says, using it alongside something like Cubase makes it even more versatile as you can build you whole song up using different lops and fills and easily zoom in to edit any parts. This can be done before or after you have laid the song down.

As you will probably have guessed from my limited recordings, I start off with a loop which I repeat as many times as I want. I can then go back in after and add fills or change the loop slightly for different parts of the song!

Just to confirm I have banned da32010 until the end of January.

Well I got my Behringer FD300 pedal as asked for. Brill sound, just have to remember to unplug it every time. Battery only lasts for a day or so otherwise!!

Sounds good!

Batteries can be a real pain. It might be worth looking to getting a power supply for it at some point - I assume that is has the option to use one?

Instructor - I like this idea. It is all too easy for scales to sound... like scales rather than music!

It is only when you inject some phrasing, timing, rhythm, rests etc that it can become something. This is something I have been conscious of for some time and am still trying to bring my scales to musical life!

Great advice so +1

Ok I do apologise for the delay in dealing with the competition but I have now successfully found the candidates.

There is 5 candidates that have exceeded 50 postings since the competition was launched.

I have randomly given each candidate a number between 1 and 5.

If the next poster can choose a number this will declare the winner.

Can I take this opportunity to thank all members for their continued support on the forum, which is very much appreciated, and I wish everyone a very happy and prosperous new year.

The primary function of guitar pro is to be able to see the tab, and the rhythm notation as well as have the ability to play the file in the form of MIDI. This allows you to hear each part and slow it down to the desired level until you have mastered it.

Often there is the complete score - ie all guitar parts, rather than just one.

It is a really helpful bit of software and you should check it out if you are into your tabs!
