Probably and it will be all the sad general public who choose to vote on such ridiculous shows. It is hardly about the music and it gets me annoyed when I hear people say how good the performance is.  Anytime I overhear it they sound awful.

Just finished reading Steven Adler's book "My appetite for destruction".

He was the original drummer for Guns N Roses before he got kind of pushed out the band for being way to messed up on drugs.

I have also read Slash's book and this rock and roll lifestyle they led sounds crazy. A lot of fun, but crazy!

Back Chat  - Queen

Here is a song I have never thought to try!

I am busy learning Thunder songs at the moment by ear. I have always been way too lazy to learn to play songs by ear but I am getting into it now thanks to the limited Thunder tab resources on the net! I think it is going to do wonder for my ear training.

The only real frustrating thing is when I just cannot find the chord. This is happening a lot at the moment. The feeling when the chord is finally found is really good and I can only see this benefiting my writing

Sounds good to me and good to hear you are still around!

Get some audio and pics up asap!

Both posts above provide great advice.

It is too easy to get caught up in learning "things" on the guitar that aren't music and you can get caught in that trap for a long time. Sure it is important to know chords, scales and technique etc but try and do this while learning(or writing) music.

What sort of songs have you been trying to play recently?

Ok due to the failure of the last competition I am going to revert back to the number of posts competition.

As we had no winner and as it is getting close to Christmas I will make this competition prize £100 (ouch default/mad) and the requirements will be that you have to make 50 valuable posts between now and the 23rd December 2010.

The winner will be selected at random using the usual way.

Once again, I am very grateful to those of you who stick around here. If I can ask people to try and open as many guitar related threads as possible to entice some newer people to join that would be fantastic.

Good luck everyone!

Well maybe I made the competition a little too difficult here as there are no successful candidates.

So I am changing the competition...

When I first started playing guitar I was taught as part of a group. It has its positives and negatives. I think the positives outweighed the negatives as being able to bounce ideas off your fellow students really helped.

I have never personally taught a group but I think i might well find it more enjoyable than teaching one at a time. I think though that my teachings days are well and truly over now. I find its a struggle to find time to even pick up the guitar at the moment let alone dedicate regular time to teach!

If someone likes your post they can click the thumbs up image and you will get 1 karma point. if they do not like it they can click the thumbs down and you lose one point (the thumbs down may be removed soon)

So if you like a post make sure to give it a thumbs up as karma is good!

And yes, that song is one of the few I like by Radiohead!

Have you written any of your own music?

Great tips.

I have never completely unlocked the fretboard. I can always work out what note I am playing but I rarely know quick enough. It is something I have always wanted to be able to know instantly as I think it can really help with writing music and communicating musical ideas.

Check out this website for great online exercises which I have used a lot over the years. Great to be able to do when you have five minutes but no guitar with you!

Well done on your position on the chart! I just checked out all your songs on there and there really are quite a mix of styles!

Which of these songs is your personal favourite?

Yes I have one and it really is a great tool.

I recently converted a cellar into a makeshift recording studio and since then I haven't used it as I have been focusing on playing directly through the computer for recording purposes. However when I have used this before, the simplicity of it and how quickly you can lay down ideas and improve lead playing is fantastic.

Lay down a two chord vamp in a second or two then work on lead all day long over it. It makes practicing scales and lead passages so much more fun.

It seems most people around here have achieved the "guitar hero" status so shall I make some more and if so, what should they be and how many posts should you have to make to achieve that status?

I find it quite amazing how similar their singing style is.

I think I do prefer Bon Scott's vocals given the two song choices presented here. Perhaps it would be better to do a comparison of the same song with each different singer.

It is hard with this comparison as Highway to Hell is such a rocking song and I have never really heard the second so immediately my ears prefer vocal and performance number one.

Sorry! I have never heard them either. What kind of style is it they play?

I haven't played any imports myself but from what I hear, the quality can be pretty good for the money you are paying!
