Sounds good! I have never really experimented at all with this style of playing! Looks pretty intense!

I'm not sure of one that has this specific focus but perhaps someone else here can help you.

Hi and welcome

Barre chords can be tough. It is not easy on an acoustic and takes time to build your strength up. It can also be to do with how you are positioning your fingers so go slowly and ensure each individual note rings out. Try and identify any notes that are not ringing out and adjust your hand accordingly.

I cannot really advise you on this particular song as I do not know it. There are hundreds of tabs out there, though some if not most are inaccurate.

I'm sure we can help you out though!

Hi Ian

Welcome to the forum!

Do you play in a band? And do you write your own music!

I have no idea and I was wondering this myself!

I cannot imagine they are genuine "likers" there seems to be more of them each day yet I do not see people actually visit this site, from what I can make out.

I don't really get it!

Thanks for that! I am going to put a link to a post on there each day in the hope that it will help grow active users!

Hi Matt

Sorry about the youtube issue. Feel free to post the URL of individual videos and it will embed it within your post. Unfortunately where there is a link to youtube that is slightly out of the ordinary it can not work correctly!

Great to have you here and I will check out your work later on!

As far as I know, Barre is the correct name but it is also common, and not necessarily incorrect.  to see them referred to as bar chords

I know what you mean!

I am usually brutal with any spammers and they get deleted right away but I'm not sure what to make of this poster!

@Laura White - what tour dates are you going to see? I cannot say that I share in your excitement - in fact I do not even know who Mary Chapin Carpenter is!

I was doing a bit of Facebook advertising but I have also set up a Facebook page now - just working out how to get the like button up on this site before I announced it officially!

Hi Matt

Warm welcome to you and thanks for joining!

Would be great to hear some of your music! Do you make you living by playing live or composing?

A riff is just a short pattern of chords and/or melody line that repeats within a song.

It is the parts of a song that most guitarists want to learn first!

I haven't really played many different guitars recently so it would be wrong of me to comment. However, there are many decent lower end guitars these days that sound good, play nicely and  look great too!

The best thing to do is get down to your local guitar store and give some a whirl and see what takes your fancy!

What a wife! No wonder you married her!

I personally don't name my guitars but I am sure there are a lot of people that do!

So now you are making your new start what are you changing about your style and/or approach to writing?

do you think have some years off from writing has helped you start with a fresh approach or made it harder to get back into it?

Good work there and thanks for being a part of this forum!

I would agree with you there.

He is a good teacher for sure. I forget my favourite but it was something like metal licks or similar. He came up with some terrific sounding licks there!

Hi

I am sorry but we cannot condone pirated DVD rips on this site.

I must say though, I really like Danny Gill - he is a great player!

I used to play live for small audiences in the past. It was terrifying, but I enjoyed it. Also, I have to say I was lucky, because the singer I was playing with was a real good frontwoman.
So she did most of the job.

Do you play out live any more? I guess it is good as a guitarist that you can choose to not take centre stage if you don't want!

Thanks for your kind words.

That is really interesting to hear your approach. Do you have other songs that you have written or other songs in production right now?

Hey John

That sounds pretty good though I struggle to make out some of lyrics. It is based on your own experiences or did you make it up?

How did you go about recording this? Did you record the guitar first then the vocals after or did you play and sing at the same time?

It is a really nice song and great guitar playing there.

How did you go about writing this song? I am always interested to know how a song begins - was it the guitar? the melody the lyrics?

I look forward to hearing the finished track with the new arrangement!
