Hi AJ

Welcome to the forum! It is always handy having both electric and acoustic guitars - they suit different music.

I'm not sure if strumming is different on an electric but generally it is easier to play chords on an electric.

You'll get it with practice anyhow!

Sounds like you have come a long way in two months!

I think most guitarists only learn small parts of songs - the interesting bits! There was a long while that I couldn't play a full tune full stop - had the intro and the solos and maybe a riff but that was it!

Worth learning the whole thing if it is a song that interests you! There are some pretty decent backing tracks around that make it fun to play the whole song!

When I was teaching I found a lot of people tending to try to apply immense pressure when playing barre chords. This did lead to some serious aching.

Often this is a common mistake as if all the notes do not sound the actual reaction is to press harder. In fact you may find that it is the positioning of your fingers that is preventing notes ringing.

So my advice would be to press as lightly as you can to try and work out how much pressure is really needed then play each note and see why individual notes might not be ringing.

You obviously need to apply some pressure for barre chords, especially on the acoustic but it would be worth looking into your technique a little to see if there can be any improvements.

As Polyal has said, electric guitars with a light gauge of strings makes barre chords much easier!

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Congratulations on starting to learn guitar!

What sort of thing are you playing/learning at the moment music wise?

I gave up smoking a few years back now.

When I go up the pub now I get abandoned when everyone goes outside!

I do not agree with a blanket ban though. It is good that family places are not filled with smoke but pubs and clubs? It is crazy. Clearly the population agrees as it is not the case that more people have started going to pubs and clubs because they are smoke free - it is the opposite!

Sorry this is my fault. I though I made it a 10mb limit but in fact I did not!

Please try again and it should work now!

Thanks

Actually I have been checking out some youtube on points I am not clear about - there are some quite good tutorials on eq that I have come across so far.

No worries

Let me know if you get stuck in any way or need to check the accuracy of any tabs! I will be glad to help!

I assume you know about guitar tab and how to read it and how to find it?

What is the size please and I will get it done.

Another one people like to try, which is good for chord change practice and picking is "Everybody Hurts" by R.E.M

This starts with D and cycles to G then goes to Em and A

Learn an Em as well (real easy one) and then cycle though G - Em - C - D which is the foundation for loads of songs.

One good one to learn is Wonderwall by Oasis. It is a good one for beginners as there is little finger movement to change the chords and two notes stay the same throughout the whole sequence.

Excellent - something to look forward to for the weekend then!

This is really good information.

You hit the nail on the head regarding it sounding like G major. This is exactly where I started to struggle. Ok with one or two chord vamps but nothing more.

I never considered using the bass to keep the modal tonality!

Thanks a lot

Hi Welcome to the forum

I'm not sure if you need effects to get the AC/DC tone just a cranked amp - though someone else maybe able to advise you better than I can!

Nothing specific. I have had limited time the last few weeks and the time I have had, I been experimenting with my guitar sound and getting used to using MIDI.

I regularly think of starting writing lyrics but it never happens. I guess that just thinking about it isn't going to get me too far! I really need to set some time aside and force myself to write, no matter how bad it may seem!

I know this may sound a bit dumb but I don't really get where to start learning how to EQ my tracks correctly and what plugins (if any) I should be using to do this.

I am reading a lot about recording and mixing and eqing but I don't really know where to begin with it.

Can anyone recommend any decent tutorials or advice on how to start understanding this more?

Cheers man! I will certainly try! I am working on songwriting/riff writing daily so I am hoping to have some more professional offerings soon!

I have heard of these systems but never used one myself as yet...

It's a nice song but it doesn't count as a one chord song!

John - you certainly have the talent! Do you ever play in front of friends and/or family?
