I have to disagree.
I was pretty shocked at Chancellor Merkel's unhelpful comments when the story broke but it makes perfect sense - there is a huge (and I mean HUGE) level of anti-immigration sentiment in Germany at the moment (something like 30% of Germans believe the country is overrun with foreigners) so it's no real surprise that Mrs Merkel should try and curry favour with such a large proportion of voters.
At a time when other EU governments are trying to encourage the free movement of labour, Mrs Merkel's comments are quite unwelcome.
Hmmm, interesting question. I played guitar for a couple of years before learning to play bass so there was an obvious advantage. I think the fact that a bass is tuned to the bottom strings on a guitar makes it easier to learn as well, as opposed to other string instruments which are tuned differently. I remember reading an interview with Billy Sheehan (of Mr Big fame) years ago where he was saying that he thought all bassists should be able to strum a few chords on the guitar before learning the bass.
That's what I think anyway.
hell, i aint no spring chicken, 44 and a grandad, if i dont do it now.......
Two words - SUSAN and BOYLE!!! That could be you Wurzel!
I also have an Ovation rounded back Electo acoustic.
I have always wanted one of them but they've always been out of my price range. I guess it certainly will be now!
Fingers, if you can afford one of them I would say go for it.
Failing that, just go into a guitar shop and try out a couple of models and go for sound, rather than brand.
I'm a big horror and martial arts fan but I'll watch most movies. I like a good rom-com as much as the next guy!
Has anyone seen the new Karate Kid? It seemed to be really hyped up and then just disappeared.
I haven't been to the movies in ages so I have no idea what's going on in the world of film. Any recommendations?
What do you call a fish with no eyes?
A "fsh".
If you're into blues and rock, check out big Ian's youtube vids in the "Recordings" section. There's some pretty cool stuff there.
It sounds like you're taking your guitar playing pretty seriously, renting out a community center and stuff. Whereabouts in the northwest are you?
When I asked the question I was thinking about banks and the recent reports in the news about how successful different banks are at answering complaints and it got me thinking, in many cases there is no profit motive for companies to satisfy customer complaints. So I wonder if there is legislation in place that forces companies to answer customer complaints.
In my best Randy Jackson voice: whaddup Dog?
Welcome!
I do have a question - are companies legally obliged to deal with customer complaints or are they within their rights to say "if you don't like it get lost"?
Dunno, suppose it depends on the quality. I suspect a large portion of the price is only for the brand!
We have "milk tokens" over here, which are exactly what they sound like but some shops will accept them for other things, which is completely illegal. I've heard of people saving them up and using them to buy cigarettes, which obviously goes completely against the principle. But people will be people!
Yes I agree completely John, you are spot on. Welfare can indeed be a trap.
Can you explain what food stamps are? I have heard of them but I don't really know anything about them. Who can get them? Where can they be used?
Yeah I agree - even playing a pentatonic scale "raw" can be a solo in itself. I think it works especially well in blues.
So, what does everybody think?
I'm a sort of "middle ground" kind of guy. Obviously there is a need for taxation to pay for things like defense, roads etc. which could not be funded otherwise (regardless of what the anarcho-capitalists say!) but I don't have time for needless bureaucracy like the legacy of New Labour!!
I don't think China needs a buffer against South Korea. I doubt that South Korea would ever invade China. South Korea isn't really a warring nation - the economy is too large (I think the 11th in the world) and they would not want to upset that.
As an interesting point, did you know that South Korea is North Korea's largest provider of foreign aid?
I used to watch american football but it would drive me crazy. Two minutes warps into twenty minutes!
My favourite is "give me one reason to stay" - a cheeky wee 12-bar blues which makes it easy to play
No, not for me either . . .
Hi Blake and welcome - good to have you with us.
What sort of music do you want to play?
No, ignore that stuff, it's not helpful.
To transpose is basically to change the key. For example, this song is in the key of Em, but suppose that your voice didn't suit this key - you could transpose up or down to find a key that suited you better.
And don't be sorry Charlie - if you are at all unsure, ASK!!! If I don't know the answer there are plenty of others on this forum who will! (and soon you'll be one of them!)
I've recently rediscovered KISS and Tracy Chapman. An interesting mix, granted, but both quality!
I do jujitsu (exam this Sunday - wish me luck!) and running. Well, jogging.
I like watching tennis and rugby.
