thanks for the info.. but i'm sticking to convention and a tuner at the moment...ive spent more
time tuning my guitar than i have playing it...you can also tune your G (approx)to any appliance buzzing
on the mains ( UK 50Hz mains ) G=49Hz...i used to have an electric razor which buzzed at 50Hz and used
it as a starting point to tune a new set of strings....that was before tuners though...just after the discovery
of electricity lol (but not to loud)
warp refraction ( why is it called warp refraction? )

dead right...use cubase.....loads of goodies for recording etc...very user friendly
and a lot cheaper and flexible than going the hardware route...although hardware item will be required
initially

rotosound yellows 10-46...good compromise when gigging mainstream songs..chords sound good..and bendable for soloing (but not as easy as 9-42)...i think they're a bit cheaper as well because they,re
made in the UK

another ' trick ' is to shorten the scale length of the ' G ' string from the nut end by about 1/8"( plain G only)
for sweeter sounding chords.. this is something i do to all my gits but is not common proceedure..sometimes the G is tuned slightly flat....a good tuner is an essential tool for any guitarist esp if playing with other
musicians

to answer my own question ..i wonder if a noise gate on the i/p would work
has anyone done this?

this is out of a physics book: the pitch of the note C in the key of C has a slightly different Hz than the C in the key of E ( cant remember the exact notes/frequencies etc )so on a piano you would need say 5 middle C's 4 A's and so on to play perfectly in tune ( what a nightmare that would be ) in any key...it also goes on to state that 229 keys ( or thereabouts ) would be required to achieve this aim.....viva temperate tuning.eh
ps please dont shoot the messenger
good trivia for the pub this one...harder than arney dorsey

thanks for the i/p
git volume is full up..it seems like a proximity thing..if i back off or hold the git in an unplayable
position it improves the s/n...but ive been spoiled now by the quietness of the ' humbucker '
trouble is i like recording with the strat

if tempered tuning was ignored how many keys ( notes/hammers ) would a grand piano need to be 'in tune'
(as in perfect pitch ) no matter
which key any given song was to be played in

+who ' invented ' the bass git...just want to know

an acoustic guitar relies on vibrant strings for its sound ...so when your acc git starts to sound
lacklustre its probably time for a string change.....an electric git is more foregiving....( sound wise )
a new string can break immediately ...so breakage should not be an issue if your git is as it  should be
a new string sound is very short lived ..so get used to a  lived in sound ie. a bit on the dull side ..adjust
your sound to a lived in sound ....dont worry about breaking strings...it happens....learn how to
do a quick change ... and if your gigging have a spare git to see you through the spot ..else you'll be on your
todd doing a string change

IMO you dont change your strings for the sake of it

if you replace a wirewound string but a drop of thin oil on it ...this will take a lot of the ' twang ' out of it
and make it more 'lived in'

always pull the sh!t out of a new string  ie tune it..pull ( tugg )it off the fretbooard ...retune...pull...tugg
untill the pitch remains the same...then tune it .....job done...no flat strings ( this takes all the slack out
of the machine head windage )

I get loads of ' noise ' when trying to record my strat ( with sustain/distortion )..thinking of
modding to a humbucker......is there a fix or do i get the butchers knife out  ??

typical recording envir. is face on with a computer di'd into a mixer via a git processor

there is no noise using a git with a humbucker
