Hi James

Yes this is a good idea and I have done this. I also moved your post and renamed it to fit within the category. This way we can have a thread per review.

Could work

As in plug ins? Could work for recording but not so much for general playing.

I am currently using cubase LE - I have never really used anything else though I might give something else a try!

I am currently using a tascam USB audio interface and I am currently trying out whether I should mic up my amp or use a plugin. I have tried various, Revalver is the one I did like to use but I am starrting to dislike the sound.

I have a shure sm-57 for micing the amps and I have some condenser mic (I forget the name) for vocals and acoustic guitar.

I have just purcahsed the Pod HD500 which also acts as an audio interface (apparetely) so I will see how that compares to the current plugins I use.

Despite having a lot of this set up for well over a year, I am still very new to recording haveoing only ever really recorded snippets of sounds before.

I really don't get the difference between cheap and expensive strings. They seem to last the same, sound the same and play the same.

I always buy in batches of 10 at £2.50 per pack. If I could justify £6.50 then I would...

Well I haven't used it much but I will get some stuff recorded so you can hear.

The main issue is for me that it doesn't have an effects loop - the primary sound that I want is distortion/overdrive and delay and without an effects loop I am limited to pedals to create the distortion/overdrive rather than the amp itself.

It sounds pretty good though. I need to spend some more time playing with it to see if it really could be a viable recording amp

Even 5W is really loud - though if it sounds good at lower volumes then bonus.

I have been using the Blackstar 1W amp recently. It is pretty good at lower volumes. It is also crazy how loud 1w can be at full volume!

Those kind of amps are ok for messing around at home, but i'd rather not play one out, and would NEVER record with one

With recording though are you having to crank your tube amp to ridiculously loud volumes?

This is my issue with tube amps - they don't sound fantastic until they are loud - really loud

imo melodyne is much better than autotune ( ive used both )...and you can get robotic effects with it
cubase 6 has got something similar to melodyne but i am well happy with sx3  and the melodyne
plug in

Cool well I will check it out and perhaps, if you don't mind, you can give me some tips on how to use it?

I have been away from guitar/studio for a while but I'm  back now and I am looking forward to getting back to trying to compose some music.

I hooked up my digital piano to my midi the other night which is really cool as I can lay down some piano chords via midi, then some strings as backing and then jam along to it!

Ah yes I think I remember you mentioning melodyne before. I must give it a go. I cannot get autotune to do a lot so maybe I should try melodyne!

I just want to test out some extreme pitch correction/changing and I making general speechinto a sung tune would be awesome!

I have been using individual stomp boxes for a long time, and sometimes for recording I have dabbled with some effects plug ins.

I am kind of fed up with my individual stomp boxes now, especially with the constant issues with hum, dody cabloes.connections, power supply issues etc etc so I am thinking of getting amutil effects unit.

I have been checking out the POD HD500 following the thread James started but is there other comparable products that are as good if not better than this?

Opinions please...

What a joke! You must have certainly felt extremely smug!

So are they having to alter any of the works done now or is it just case closed?

I totally agree. It is all good until people start exploiting it which seems to commonly happen these days

Possibly but I think years ago I did something to my hand and it hurt - just before the knuckles before my ring and pinky finger.

This has never really gone away and I can often feel a twinge of pain here. This new pain is similar but not in the same place...

I can't help feeling that you are limiting yourself with everything being contained in one box. I may be wrong though as I have not heard the line 6

Building your own amp seems a cool idea!

The amp does sound good I must admit but I don't like the housing at all!

I haven't been playing guitar for quite a few weeks.

This was primarily because I had been mainly playing piano and to move teh piano into my studio meant everything needed to be unplugged and I didn't get around to plugging it back in.

Well I did at the weekend and I spent an hour or so having a jam on the guitar.

But the last couple of days I have a pain in my left hand. It does not feel like it is because I haven't played in a while, it feels more like I have pulled something though I didn't feel any pain at the time.

Has anyone else experiences pains in their left hand?

Are either of these something you would be considering?
