how do I find the URL
It will be in the address bar of your browser where you would usually type www. etc.
so for example the full URL of the example above is
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAkoWUvHTVU
Hope this makes sense

Yes this is my site.
We have some great guys on here that I'm sure can help out if I can't manage it!
Cheers!
****Please note that you no longer have to do this as simply putting the Youtube URL will work****
If you are trying to post a link to a Youtube video then you can now embed this in your post.
To do this you need to find the URL of the video you wish you use. You need to then use the Youtube tags as below and put everything AFTER the www.youtube.com.
Here is an example:
Will give you this terrific Satriani video:

Check it out!
Another competition for September.
Starting from today, anyone who posts 20 times from now until the end of September will be entered into the competition to win £50, paid by Paypal, in the currency of your choice.
To qualify, the posts cannot be spam and must contribute to the forum.
The winner will be selected using the random selection technique used on the last competition.
Last time there were only four candidates that qualified so everyone has a really good chance of winning!
So best of luck, and thanks a lot for posting!
I hope you don't mind but I took the liberty of editing your post to correctly embed the Youtube vid.
I don't have my guitar with me right now but I will try and check it out later!
to correctly embed Youtube videos at the moment you need to do this:
Hi and welcome!
What kind of music are you into and what do you enjoy playing on the guitar?
As I have mentioned a lot recently, I have been getting into Thunder, and due to the limited tab resources for this band I have had to start working out some of the music myself.
I think I have pretty much nailed this one but there is one part that I still do not think I am getting right, although it does sound close. Perhaps someone else can spot it.
Here is the song and it is the chorus that I am referring to.

So the chords I have so far are as follows (most are played as 5s (no 3rd)):
Dm - Bb - F - A - Db
Dm - Bb - Gm - C - Bb - now here is where I struggle)
I currently play this which sounds ok but not 100%
F - Bb - F5/C - B5(flat 5) - G - A
Can anyone help identify this part better?
On someones recommendation I have just bought a book called " how to write songs on guitar" by Rikky Rooksby.
I m so far very impressed with the information contained within it. In the first couple of chapters you get given examples of loads of chord progressions like this as well as examples of what songs use them.
The book then goes on to describe song structure, rhythm, melody, lyrics etc though I have not got to these sections yet.
You can quickly see the more popular progressions that are used as there are loads of song examples, such as the progression mentioned above.
One interesting point that he makes, is that if you can make something sound great out of a non popular chord progression it will instantly sound unique. The example he gave is of the song "light my fire" by The Doors. It has that two chord progression that you would struggle to find in any other song. As soon as these two chords are played together, it instantly sounds like the this song due to how unique putting these two chords together sounds!
It is well worth a read, especially if you want to get into trying more popular chord progressions and seeing how different songs tick!
I am hoping that this book, as well as my other songwriting analysis will really help me write some of my own music!
I still haven't written anything yet but I feel the day is ever getting closer ( I have been saying this for around ten years now though!!!)
This is the most popular Thunder song that most people will know

Yes I had not heard about them until very recently and now I am finding I am enjoying more and more of their music. I find it great to listen to as well as analyse to help with my own songwriting!
Posting youtube vids is a function that I managed to get working yesterday. You need to take the youtube url after the .com and surround it in youtube tags like this:
This should give you a video like this:

Yes you kind of have to look at each transaction and see whether it is a high risk item or not.
There are a few checks out there that can help but you do have to be so careful.
Another interesting thing I learnt is that the guitarist, Luke Morely, wrote pretty much all the material on his own.
Real inspirational stuff for us guitarists! Luckily he had a very versatile singer to get his songs sung!
I think this band had everything it took to become massive but for some reason, perhaps wrong place at wrong time, they never became as big as they deserved.
Having discovered Thunder and checking out the comments on Youtube and other blogs I think many fans feel the same way!
I have been checking out a load of their stuff and the songs are so well written.
Check out this one:

One of the things I am finding great about this band is that there are hardly any tabs online. Being generally lazy I will usually just look up something if I fancy playing it. With Thunder I can find little tabs and not very accurate so I have been spending my time working it out.
I have always known how helpful this is to training your ear but I always too the easy approach.
Check out the chord progression in the chorus
Since recently discovering the band Thunder I have been listening non stop to their music.
I am kind of gutted that I have only discovered them now, one year on after they split from a 20 year career! The singer, Danny, has an exceptional voice that sounds perfect even whilst singing live.

Yep a great chord progression there. Are you going to start writing a new song based on these?
Welcome to the forum.
At this stage I would advise that you don't look at changing your amp. You will probably find that you should be able to dial something that is usable with your current setup. If you enjoy it enough you may look at getting something more suited to the style later down the line!
All the best and hope to hear your music soon!
I struggle to find time to play guitar but once the kids get into a routine of going to bed at a decent time I get some time in the evening!
That is if the mrs will let me!
Is it possible to get the whole file from you on your tabs
PM sent!
I am currently using the vai signature picks which are quite pointy and a nice weight. Sometimes on the acoustic guitar I favour a lighter pick
I'm not too sure what I would go for next. I would really be looking for tone at lower volumes! As yet I have not found anything that matches my exact requirements!
Perhaps I will need to work more on this soundproofing I have in my cellar then I can crank it up a bit more, this will allow my choice of amps to be much broader!
This is an interesting debate. And Thanks for that link Polyal - that is truly extreme!
Vialli - what do you think you would have done if there was no such thing as a left handed guitar and no one had swapped the strings around to play it in reverse in the past? Do you think you would have not played the instrument at all? Or perhaps naturally assumed to swap the strings around yourself to allow a more comfortable playing?
I can remember how foreign playing the guitar was to both hands when starting out. I wonder if, like in the link above, either hands can be trained to do either parts.
What is your view on the points raised about violinists etc where left or right handed players play the same instruments using the same hands?
Did you start right out on a left handed guitar?
Thanks for your contribution to the forum!
Thanks for the link and welcome!
Hi
Welcome to the forum, sorry for the delay in my response but I have been away.
Excellent guitar work there. It is a shame about the recording quality as it makes it difficult to hear properly but you can tell you have decent, tight technique there.
Very good stuff! Hope to hear more of your playing soon!
Yes I can imagine!
I have a stepdaughter who is 9 and now two of my own, one is two one is only just 6 months! They can be a handful but also very rewarding!
