Hey Everyone
Sorry that I have not been around so much the last couple of weeks. I have been quite busy with my other work.
Anyhow, I hope all is well and I am now back!

Well probably not yet but former GnR original lineup member, bassist Duff McKagan joined Mr Rose on stage last week for the first time since 1993.

Many people long for a reunion but could it really ever get back to what is was?
No idea but welcome to the forum anyhow!
That is a good way to find out about it! And well done for actually winning!
I am certainly behind at the moment. I occasionally win £10 but generally I play £20 worth each month! So I am most definitely down.
I like to think that as each draw goes by, my chances of winning increases so I am sure the big win is only just around the corner for me!
The only other stringed instrument I have tried is the bass - and I think that any guitarists should be able to play the bass with the skills they learn on the guitar - though mastering the bass is something completely separate.
I guess the whole left and right hand coordination you learn with guitar makes it easier to go to another stringed instrument and give you an advantage over someone that has picked it up with no prior experience
Never did understand why in America your winnings are paid over time.
I never knew this either!
In the UK we get it tax free and we can either make it public or remain anonymous if you choose!
I, unfortunately, am yet to win yet though - despite my best efforts!
Does it do it when you play that string on it's own? It could be that your action needs adjusting slightly or even the truss rod
I am looking for some standard sounds that you would find on a keyboard like strings, organ etc but I don't seem to have anything that comes with cubase. Is this correct? If so is there anything icould download to get some of these sounds?
Thanks
Here She is, all I can say is I'm in LOVE!!!
Congratulations Alun - she sure is a beauty! And I am sure you are never too old to get excited about getting something like this!
Yep looks great there!
how did you end up finding your amps that you use now - did you go through a load of amps before you settled with what you have now?
I seem to have gone through a fair few myself already and am still not really happy with my amp situation - especially for lower volume usage!
Pretty impressive stuff. I bet they are pleased to be out of there! It must have been a tense couple of months for them!
And be sure to grab the backing track whilst you still can...

I am still amazed that this site has remained here for so long and has not been taken down yet as I am certain that not all these tracks cannot be legally put up there.
Well electric guitar strings are made from steel - or am I missing the question? I beleive they may somtimes get plated to prevent wear and corrosion but I am not sure.
They come in different gauges which make them hard or easier to play on. Generally the heavier the gauge the nicer the tone though it is a balance between what you can comfortably play to fit your style against the tone you can get.
Personally I use 9s which is a short was of saying that the thinnest E string is 0.009 of an inch I believe (someone correct me if I am wrong) and then the strings get thicker up to 0.042.
I think the most recent film I have watched and actually quite enjoyed was Harry Brown with Michael Caine which was one of those surprising ones where you think it might be a bit rubbish but turned out ok in the end!

Sounds exactly the sort of thing I had been looking for.
I heard that you will never really achieve that cranked sound fully at lower volumes as the way that the speakers react to quieter volumes is just not quite the same.
I have tried power attenuators in the past but never really got along with them. Maybe next time I have a bit of spare cash (unlikely) I will give this Rat Amps a go!
Wurzel - is this the main amp that you use at the moment?
Smoke on the Water is a good one
try Layla for a bit of lead playing
One vision by Queen or Tie your Mother Down is another good one that I learnt in the early days!
Not really. I have a couple of mates that play guitar but that's where it ends. I have a young family so joining any kind of band is not so much of an option right now though hopefully in the future!
I have a little home made recording studio that I get to go in most nights so I have been focussing on the recording and writing side of things which I'm enjoying though not got much down yet!
No worries for posting lots - helping out is what we are all about!
When I first started playing I used to know strings needed replacing when one snapped!
As strings get older they start to lose their brightness and sound muddy. Your strings are most likely good for another three months or more but when you do change then you will see how different it is playing on new strings and from then on you will always know when it is time!
I used to go through strings like anything - maybe changing them once a week to really maintain the brightness. Now I change them once every few months if that!
ssr studios (manchester), and recorded
'wish you were here'..i played 6 and 12 string guitar
Wow that sounds great! And great stuff with the jamming at the community centre. I can only imagine that playing with others is a really great experience.
We have that Lovefilm thing where we gets films delivered to the door so tend to watch quite a lot of films.
What sort of thing are you into?
I fancied one with a slimmer body as well,
I also have an Ovation rounded back Electo acoustic. It sounds pretty good and much more comfortable to play and wasn't too expensive - it may suit you! The trouble with the thinner bodies is you lose some depth to the sound so it is a bit of a compromise game!
You sure can go and play at the store - I also felt a bit awkward going in the first time but they are used to a lot of real terrible wannabe guitarists coming in and I am sure they will do their best to m ake you feel comfortable!
Thanks! I enjoy it. We have a really nice bunch of people on here right now. I really appreciate everyone's effort on here!
Yep check eBay but also check reviews as well and go for something decent - it will save you money in the long run!
Sure -
Learn all these positions of the pentatonic first
http://gosk.com/scales/minor-pentatonic … guitar.php
I assume you have been learning what is shown as position 2 on this site?
if so then work on position 3 which, as it would suggest, is the next one up - try and slide between the two positions and see what you can come up with!
Then learn position 1 and work between the three
Position 5 is also good as the root note is on the 5th string. So for example, if you play position 2 on the 12th fret, try starting position 5 on the 5th fret of the 5th string. It will help "unlock" the fretboard
Then you if you want to:
http://gosk.com/scales/natural-minor-sc … guitar.php
Look at position 2 here and compare it to position 2 of the pentatonic. All the notes are there of the pentatonic there is just a couple more added! So you can and and remove as you see fit!
I always suffered with this one and replaced my lead often, often attempting to find the cheapest replacement for it only to happen again.
I then spent a bit more (around £25) and this one has been lasting years.
Another mistake I used to make is to get a lead that was way longer than I needed. This often caused early wear where my desk chair etc would regularly roll over it! now I just use a 3m lead which reduces this sort of thing happening!
