Finding the Right Nut Size for Fat Fingers

Hey everyone, I've been struggling with playing because my fingers are a bit on the larger side. I started with a Telecaster, but it just didn't feel right. After doing some digging, I found out that the nut size is a big factor. Fender guitars typically have a 42mm nut, which didn't work for me. I ...

How long does ear training take?

I've been using the 'Functional Ear Trainer' app for about three days, putting in around 90 minutes each day. I've noticed some improvement, but the differences between the sounds are so subtle that I still get them wrong frequently. Is this a long-term commitment? Should I be using a different ...

Pitch vs tone

This is something I’ve never thought about with guitar on all of the years I’ve played, but have been thinking about it a ton having started singing lessons 9 months ago. If I play a note on guitar, the exact same note can sound very different from one guitar to the next or if (on electric) adjust ...

Always having music playing in your head?

I am an amateur musician, so I play at home and once a week or so at open mics. For some years now I've noticed that I always have some song playing in my head. I don't mean often, or usually, I mean every waking moment, and even sometime in my sleep. Is that unusual?

Do You Prefer Practising Alone Or Playing With Others?

Some players improve faster playing with others, while others prefer practising solo. Which works best for you?

Improving as an Intermediate Guitarist

For me it's getting more fluent with connecting what I hear to what I play while improvising. Interested in hearing everyone else's goals!

Learning Guitar Scales: Easy or Difficult?

I’ve been playing guitar for a few years and one thing always stood out to me: learning scales on guitar feels much harder than on instruments like piano. On piano everything is visually linear, but on guitar the same scale appears in multiple positions and patterns across the fretboard. When I was ...

Mastering triads?

I learned all triad shapes on all string sets in the key of G. I can play them in major/minor currently. I know where the roots are, and I know the inversions.
However, I think I can only play them well, with a steady speed, because I am relying on the dots on the guitar, so I know where to put my ...
